Mary Shelley writes again in Bournemouth thanks to Diane Roberts
Dorset based artist Diane Roberts has just completed a commission of four paintings for the Mary Shelly Bar, owned by J D Weatherspoon in Bournemouth town centre. The bar is opposite St Peters churchyard where Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, is buried.

Diane uses a combination of screen printing and traditional easel painting techniques. The result is blended in such a way that the painting is a magical mixture of solid and misty forms. I found my eyes being drawn to explore different images within the whole.
An actress from the Brownsea Players, Claire Hunt, posed in traditional dress as Mary Shelley for the paintings. The painting shown is “Mary writing Frankenstein”.
