Bot Fly Removal After Jungle Hike. Cusco, Peru
This is a video of a small bot fly being surgically removed from my shoulder. I got the bot fly during an 8-day hike in the Bolivian Amazon. It wasn’t until 3 weeks later that I realized what it was. I know that we could have suffocated the litter bugger and then removed it ourselves, but we were traveling at the time and were in a big city, and I just wanted to get it out of my body. Warning: this video is gross. I wasn’t even planning on sharing it, but a lot of people asked to see it …

Ever come to the realization that there has been a bug eating your flesh for the past three weeks? If so, I doubt your first thought would be: “Let’s smother this thing in hopes that it dies inside my body.” My shoulder was seriously infected, we were in a big city, and it only cost $100 for the entire surgery! I’ll pay that any day as opposed to waiting, making sure nothing touches your back, and hoping the infection doesn’t spread while the bug dies in your body.
I agree with finnjolly…
I was thinking the exact same thing. He could have done this himself and gone to see a doctor for disinfectants and such later…
its too bad the doctor didnt put vaseline and or tape on the natural opening where larva was using as a breathing hole. That little fella would just have popped right out without any shots, knives or gouging. Maybe somebody should send this doctor a few good you tube videos. Hope everything turned out ok without infection.
Tell me what you're thinking...
